Ryan Maloney is a musician, singer, songwriter and producer based in Las Vegas. If you’ve been to Vegas in the past few years, you’ve almost certainly heard him play at one of the many spots along the Strip. He grew up in a trailer park in Michigan and dreamed of making it in the music business but there was a lot of adversity along the way. There were issues with drugs and even homelessness. But he had a outrageous goal to be on NBC’s show The Voice. He wrote that goal on a post-it note and put it on his mirror and looked at it and focused on it every day for two years. With his marriage on the rocks, he hit the ‘pause’ button on his life and tried out for the show and ended up with a top-five finish and with Blake Shelton as his mentor. It was a life-changing experience and one that put him on the path he’s on today - a working musician who books his own shows and who approaches his career with a serious blue collar work ethic. It’s a great story and there are some really valuable lessons for anyone who aspires to take their passion and turn it into a career.
